THE AFRICAN UNION DAY CELEBRATION 2025
The 2025 African Union Day celebration was held at the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI), University of Ibadan, with a distinguished representation from the University Management. The Vice-Chancellor was ably represented by the Dean of Students, Professor D. Lewis, while the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) was represented by Prof. R.O. Olaniyi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts. The Programme Coordinators were in attendance, along with officials from the Office of International Programmes, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
In her welcome address, the Director emphasized that the Annual Event not only commemorates the founding of the African Union but also highlights the unity, progress, and promising future of the African continent. In line with the theme of the celebration, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations” she urged students to stand together in confronting the injustices of racism and discrimination.
Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s opening remarks, the Dean of Students reminded the gathering that African unity and progress remain the continent's collective strength and driving force for growth and development.
The event featured a variety of engaging activities, including a debate on the theme of the year, traditional African cultural dances, short drama presentations, the Mr. and Miss Contest, and a display of African dishes. These activities not only entertained but also showcased the rich cultural heritage and creative talents of the students.
The celebration was well attended, vibrant, and impactful, reinforcing the values of unity, diversity, and shared progress among students and the University community.
