Matriculation Ceremony for the academic year 2019/2020

The Pan African University Institute for Life and Earth Sciences including Health and Agriculture (PAULESI) held its Matriculation Ceremony for the academic year 2019/2020 on Thursday, 30 January 2020. The Matriculation Ceremony serves as a formal process of becoming a student of the university or becoming a recognized member of the university community after having met all academic and administrative requirements. All new students had to participate fully by taking the Oath of Matriculation and signing the Matriculation Register before being formally recognized as bona-fide students of the Institution, and so entitled to all rights and privileges pertaining therein.
The Matriculation Ceremony was solemnly opened by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration of the Host university, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale who also gave the Matriculation address on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka who was unavoidably absent. As the host of the event, Professor Matthew Oluwole Abatan, Director of PAULESI delivered his welcome address. He narrated the admission process and noted that 80 students were joining PAULESI in the 2019-2020 academic year (27 PhD students and 53 Masters students). He further noted that the newly admitted students came from 20 African Union Member States (Malawi, Nigeria, Cameroon, Swaziland, Burundi, DRC, Eritrea, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, Benin, Liberia, Guinea, Somalia, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Tanzania).
In the Matriculation address, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, warmly welcomed the newly admitted students into Nigeria as the host country, into University of Ibadan and most especially into PAULESI. He implored them to abide by the rules and regulations of the Institute and the host Institution. He wished the students success in their different academic endeavors, and that, their overall performance would justify the good gesture of the African Union in awarding them the scholarship.
The Registrar of the Host University, Mrs Olubunmi O. Faluyi who was ably represented by the Deputy Registrar (Senate, Admissions and Affiliated Institutions), Mrs Morenike F. Afolabi led the students in the Matriculation oath. The Matriculation ceremony ended with the singing of the AU, Nigerian and the University of Ibadan anthems.
