Prof. Losenge Turoop, a seasoned academic and administrator, has taken on the role of Acting Director at the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI). With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Prof. Turoop brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this prestigious institution.

Born on December 28, 1971, in Suguta Marmar, Samburu District, Kenya, Prof. Turoop's educational journey began at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where he earned his Bachelor's and Doctoral degrees in Horticulture and Phytopathology, respectively. He further honed his skills through postdoctoral studies at Leibniz University Hannover and visiting professorships at esteemed institutions like Humboldt University of Berlin and Clemson University.

Prof. Turoop's academic prowess is matched by his exceptional leadership abilities. He has held several key positions at JKUAT, Director of the Graduate School, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and University Resource Mobilization Officer.  Now he is occupying the position of Acting Director of PAUSTI.

 His contributions have extended beyond academia, as evidenced by his prestigious appointments as the Chair of the UWEZO Fund Oversight Board and the Chair of the National Environmental Trust Fund.

Throughout his career, Prof. Turoop has made significant contributions to the field of plant pathology and horticulture. He has participated in the development of endophyte-enhanced tissue culture bananas and bio-pesticides for controlling damping-off diseases. His research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including phytopathology, entomology, and sustainable agriculture practices.
