Historic Convocation: PAUSTI and JKUAT Empower Industry Ready Graduates for Africa’s Transformation

The Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) proudly marked its 13th graduation ceremony in a joint convocation with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Held at JKUAT’s main campus, the historic event brought together two leading institutions united by a shared vision of advancing science, technology, and innovation across Africa.

PAUSTI presented 22 graduands:11 PhDs and 10 Master’s degree recipients whose achievements reflected years of rigorous study and groundbreaking research. Their success was a testament to the institute’s mission of nurturing high-level capacity in science and technology to drive Africa’s development. Each graduate stood as a symbol of Pan-African education and the promise of a continent rising through knowledge and innovation.

The joint ceremony also showcased the impact of research from both institutions, with projects addressing real-world challenges in agriculture, engineering, biotechnology, and applied sciences. These innovations underscored the role of universities as engines of societal progress, producing solutions that resonate far beyond academia and into communities across Africa.

Rector of the Pan African University, Prof. Jean Koulidiati, was represented at the ceremony by Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu Ale. In her address, Prof. Akeredolu Ale challenged the graduates to nurture an entrepreneurial mindset and embrace ethical leadership. She urged them to harness the power of synergy and innovation to transform communities and the continent at large. Her words were a rallying call for graduates to see themselves as custodians of Africa’s renaissance.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi also addressed the gathering, highlighting the continued focus on quality training, research, and innovation. She emphasized that the university’s programs are designed to meet both national and continental priorities, ensuring that graduates are equipped to tackle Africa’s challenges with creativity and resilience. Her message reinforced the institution’s role in shaping leaders who will drive sustainable development.

As the graduates celebrated their achievements, the ceremony closed with a sense of optimism and purpose. The joint graduation was more than a milestone; it was a symbol of Africa’s collective journey toward progress. With their degrees in hand and the encouragement of their mentors and leaders, the graduates left ready to lead, innovate, and inspire change across the continent.
