INNOVATION SHOWCASE AT PAULESI

|   PAU

In Ibadan, Nigeria within the framework of the graduation ceremonies of the Pan African University Institute for Life and Earth Sciences including Health and Agriculture (PAULESI), scheduled to take place on 16 and 17 November 2022, the African Union delegation in PAULESI was honoured to attend the Innovation Showcase and Space Launch on Monday 15 November 2022.

This very rich programme sponsored by the African Development Bank aims at stimulating the innovative spirit of PAULESI students in order to develop adequate solutions to African challenges; the major aim being to make PAULESI students shift from job seekers to job creators.

The peculiarity of this showcase lies on the fact that it was animated by a mix of PAULESI students, including those admitted this year and their senior colleagues from Master’s and PhD programmes.

The Pan African University has always fostered continental integration and gender mainstreaming. This was clearly exemplified in the composition of the various showcasing groups. Actually, students from various African nationalities and gender came together to develop innovative projects to be supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The projects presented aim at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and AU Agenda 2063. They provide solutions to the challenges faced by our continent.

The various groups which request funding from AfDB include amongst others: Fempride whose project aims at manufacturing sanitary towels (disposable and reusable) made from banana tree fibers and at affordable prices. This project comes as a remedy to girls drop outs during their period for lack of sanitary towels.

Other projects fostering social inclusion (Beyond Sight), environment protection (ECOBIN, Envirth Resources), have also been presented to the public with interesting prototypes.

The Pan African University is proud to train the future African problem solvers
