Tlemcen, Algeria (May 6, 2024) - The Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) will hold its 8th graduation ceremony on May 7th in Tlemcen, celebrating the achievements of 71 students from 32 African nations.

This graduating class comprises the pioneer cohort of the new and first-of-its-kind Climate Change Engineering program at PAUWES.

These graduates will be tasked with developing innovative solutions to address pressing climate challenges like rising sea levels, extreme weather events, food insecurity, and ecosystem degradation in their respective countries.

PAUWES provides world-class graduate training to nurture the next generation of African leaders and experts tackling sustainable development challenges.

Its cutting-edge programs build expertise to solve pressing issues like water scarcity, food insecurity, clean energy access deficits, and the impacts of climate change.

The ceremony will feature remarks from leaders in higher education, sustainable development, and the African Union, which oversees the Pan African University's network of institutes hosted at universities across five regional hubs.

PAUWES operates at the University of Tlemcen in Algeria.

During their intensive two-year programs, PAUWES students collaborated on applied research projects grounded in African contexts. This hands-on approach develops real-world solutions while graduates explore the rich diversity across the 32 nations represented.

Session Members of the Senate shall be meeting in the sidelines of this major event. These senior officials coming from the five geographical regions of the continent will also grace the ceremony with their presence.

The Senate serves as the governing council overseeing academic policies and programs driving sustainable progress through postgraduate training and research excellence.

By building transformative expertise in water, energy, climate change, and related fields, PAUWES and the Pan African University system aim to catalyze sustainable socio-economic development while confronting humanity's greatest challenges at their roots in Africa.
