OPEN CALL FOR VISITING LECTURERS (MSC AND PHD LEVELS) 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

The Pan African Institute of Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS) is one of the five hubs of Pan African University inaugurated on 14th of December 2011 in Addis Ababa; Ethiopia. PAUGHSS is hereby launching an open call application for visiting lecturers to dispense lectures and supervise students' scientific research in MSC and PhD programs. These programs include: Governance and Regional Integration (Yaoundé) and Translation, Conference Interpreting, Transborder Languages and Intercultural Communication programs (Buea) for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Preamble

The Pan African Institute of Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS) is one of the five hubs of Pan African University inaugurated on 14th of December 2011 in Addis Ababa; Ethiopia. PAUGHSS is hereby launching an open call application for visiting lecturers to dispense lectures and supervise students' scientific research in MSC and PhD programs. These programs include: Governance and Regional Integration (Yaoundé) and Translation, Conference Interpreting, Transborder Languages and Intercultural Communication programs (Buea) for the 2025/2026 academic year.

 

         1.         Period and Duration of Contract

For the 2025-2026 academic year, short term contracts for lecturers will last at least sixteen

(16) weeks depending on the work load (credit hours) assigned either in the - first semester, that runs from April to July 2025 or

-second semester, that runs from August to October 2025

        11.       Job description

Academic activities included in this call are; -dispensation of lectures

-participation in research seminars and juries

-supervision of theses and dissertations

The visiting lecturer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. It is incumbent to teach the assigned courses in the relevant working language(s) which must be in conformity with the program.
  2. Prior to every academic activity the lecturer is responsible to communicate a methodological framework on both material and digital resources.
  3. Collaborate closely with the Programme Coordinator as well as with the Institute's Deputy Director.
  4. To provide the PAUGHSS administration with a syllabus of ten (10) pages integrating the course objectives, competencies as well as theoretical concepts to be developed per chapter and chapters' summaries, an indicative bibliography, the necessary materials for the course and the scheduling of student's independent work (if needed).
  5. Actively participate in all coordination and institute meetings as required. Such meetings are mandatory and part of academic duties.
  6. Supervise and evaluate students' works (check day-to-day work and seminar tasks, assessment and examination of student work, participate in grading, etc.), and provide (upon request) appropriate evaluative feedback to any student.
  7. Submit examination questions accompanied with marking guide and an evaluation rubric and examination marks (for both Normal and Resit sessions) on time to the Programme Coordinator and Institute Deputy Director's Office.

         Ill.      Essential Duties and Functions

The visiting lecturer will have the following duties:

l. Cover the syllabus provided within the time frame and with due respect to the number of contact hours specified (for the program in Governance and Regional Integration a minimum of 40 contact hours for Master and 25 contact hours for PhD is required);

  1. Prepare for lectures and practical sessions in accordance with the academic policies and guidelines of the PAU, and dispense lectures in person on the days and times indicated by the Programme Coordinator;
  2. Give continuous assessments tests (CATs) to students enrolled in the course as advised by the Programme Coordinator;
  3. Prepare and mark final and supplemental examinations/evaluations, submitting marks no later than the deadline specified by the Programme Coordinator;
  4. Abide by and ensure students' observance of the regulations of the Institute and of the Pan-African University.

         IV.      Requirements by Speciality

  1. Master's Programs in Translation, Conference Interpreting Transborder Languages and Intercultural Communication Program (PAUTRAIN)

Applicants for part-time teaching have to fulfill the following conditions:

    1. Be holder of at least a master's degree in the specified subject or its recognised equivalent as the case may be. Moreover, a PhD in the relevant field is an added advantage;
    2. Indicate the working languages in the right order of the combination (i.e. A, B and C) from among the following as applicable: Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese and Spanish;
    3. Knowledge and professional experience in any African community language should be indicated (Certificates of Effective Service, Invitations
    4. Specify the teaching subject from the list of courses advertised (see list of courses in the Annex);
    5. Show evidence of at least five-year experience of effective professional practice in the relevant languages (attestations, invitations
    6. Show interest and competence in scientific research and innovation (lists of publications);
    7. Proficiency in both French and English (if different from instructional languages) is an advantage.
  1. Master's and PhD Programs in Governance and Regional Integration
    1. With a heavy inclination to Governance and Regional Integration, candidates must be at least: Holder of a PhD degree in the fields of Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences;
    2. Show teaching and scientific research experience with at least five (5) years' work experience;
    3. Excellent FrenchÆnglish language (Bilingualism proficiency will be advantageous);
    4. Show evidence of scientific publications, academic and professional networks (Distinctions, Certificates, Attestations and/or Recommendation letters).

Remuneration of short-term visiting lecturers

Courses are paid as per contact hours, at rate of 60 USD per hour.

Classes are held face-to-face or by videoconference by the contracting party.

When the teacher's presence is required at PAUGHSS campus, the related costs associated to visa, travel and subsistence allowance will be covered according to existing PAUGHSS guidelines.

Candidates are required to submit the following documents (all in PDF format, if submitted online):

 

    1. A motivation letter of a page indicating clearly the course chosen in the list below with clear reference to expertise and indicating availability for the academic year 2025-2026;
    2. Certified true copies of the Master's and/or Ph.D. degree certificates;
    3. Certified true copy of the birth certificate;
    4. Evidence of professional practice experience (Certificates, Attestations, Distinctions, Letters of Recommendation... )
    5. An updated curriculum vitae including:

 a list of research projects (who directs or executes) a list of scientific publications and academic/professional accolades, a list of consultations and other assignments.

    1. Two major articles published in relation to the theoretical field of the chosen course.
    2. Contact details of three referees (names, email address, telephone number, institution etc)
    3. A coloured passport-size photograph;
    4. A syllabus of ten (10) pages that includes a course description per chapter integrating the course objectives, competencies as well as theoretical concepts to be developed and summaries of chapters, an indicative bibliography, necessary materials for the course and scheduling of student's independent work (if needed).
