Prof. AMANY EL-SHARIF RE-ELECTED AS VICE PRESIDENT OF THE PAU COUNCIL

The Thirty-eighth Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union, held on 15–16 February 2025, has officially endorsed the re-election of Prof. Amany El-Sharif as Vice President of the Pan African University (PAU) Council for a second three-year term. Prof. El-Sharif secured her re-election during the Forty-sixth Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, which took place on 12–13 February 2025, exceeding the required threshold to retain her position.

Her re-election follows a rigorous selection process that began with the Bureau of the Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, and Technology (STC-EST) undertaking the pre-selection of candidates. This was followed by deliberations by the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) before the final decision was made by the Executive Council of the African Union. Her election was subsequently endorsed by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

Having first been elected in 2022, Prof. El-Sharif has played a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the PAU, strengthening its position as a premier institution for higher education, research, and innovation across the African continent. The PAU Council, as the university’s highest governing body, is responsible for overseeing policies, academic programs, and initiatives that drive excellence in education, science, technology, and innovation in Africa.

Under Prof. El-Sharif’s leadership, PAU has continued to expand its impact by fostering academic excellence, enhancing research collaboration, and promoting continental integration through higher education. Her re-election is expected to build on these achievements, ensuring continuity in PAU’s strategic direction.
