PAULESI CELEBRATES 2022 AFRICA DAY

|   PAU

Celebrated on 25 May, the Africa Day is a commemoration of the date marking the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), ancestor of the African Union (AU). This year, the Pan African University Institute of Life and Earth Sciences including Health and Agriculture (PAULESI) celebrated this Day with fun and reflection.

The festive part of the celebration included singing, dancing, fashion show, quizzes, dramas, traditional drumming, and meal exhibition, by PAULESI students coming from various African countries. Dressed in beautiful and colourful African attires, students also showcased their entrepreneurship talents by distributing soap made by themselves. Other entrepreneurship activities at the institute include smoothy-making and Tie and Dye.

Drawing the link between this year’s celebration and the AU theme of the year focusing on nutrition, the Director of PAULESI, Prof. Esther T. Akinlabi urged students to provide solutions to the challenge of malnutrition on the continent.

Referring to the efforts the African Union has made in prioritizing investments on nutrition, she reiterated that students should contribute their quota to the development of the continent.

The event sponsored by several companies including First Bank Nigeria Limited, Proprietor of Olatunde Runsewe Hall, Proprietor of Akande Hall and Sumal foods, was an occasion to showcase the rich and diverse culture of Africa.
