THE PAN-AFRICAN UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE FOR GOVERNANCE, HUMAN AND SOCIAL SCIENCES (PAUGHSS) GRADUATES 9th BATCH OF MASTER AND PHD STUDENTS

Yaoundé, Cameroon: on 22 March2024, the Cameroon-based Pan-African University Institute for Governance, Human and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS), graduated 84 Master’s and PhD students.

The ceremony, held under the auspices of both the Rector of the Pan African University and the Rector of University of Yaounde II-Soa, was also graced by high-ranking officials, including the representative of Cameroon’s Minister of State-Minister of Higher Education, Government Officials, Rectors and Vice Rectors of the host universities (University of Yaounde II-Soa and University of Buea), local authorities and graduands’ relatives.

The 9th graduating class was made up of 84 students, from PAUGHSS’s four main programmes: Governance and Regional Integration (16 Ph.D. and 45 MA); 10 MA in Translation; 08 MA in Conference Interpreting, and 05 MA in Transborder Languages and Intercultural Communication. The Rector of the Pan African University emphasized that the calibre of the graduating class reflected the efforts made since their selection, namely the respect for the pillars of the African Union in terms of transparency, absence of conflicts of interest, regional distribution and gender. In the same vein, PAUGHSS maintains a strong commitment to gender parity and inclusion, with 42 female and 42 men among this year’s 84 graduates.

In his address, the PAU Rector called the attention of graduates on the following: “Africa is counting on you. In a bid to establish strong institutions in Africa, there are numerous challenges in the field of Governance, Human and Social Sciences. You must serve your countries at all levels: regional and continental. The implementation of innovative social development programmes and policies and institutional reforms are legitimate expectations that we have for you. By virtue of the content of the training courses offered and the diversity of the topics covered, PAUGHSS is an incubator, or rather the place for African integration, and you, dear laureates, must be its ambassadors…. Promoting and preserving the image of the University is also a duty to which I urge you.”

This cohort of well-trained graduates from the Pan-African University (PAU) is a vivid contribution to the achievement of an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa we want. PAU realises its full potential by investing in the education and training of a new generation of responsible leaders who will facilitate the pan-African integration.
