COMMISSIONER FOR ESTI AT THE HEADQUARTERS OF INCUBME ON 25 MAY 2022

|   PAU

While in Algeria on a working mission, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI), H.E. Prof. Mohammed Belhocine, who was in Algiers for a few days, met with the managers of the Start-up IncubeMe on 25 May 2022.

IncubMe is an incubator and accelerator created in Algiers in 2018 to solve the problems faced by entrepreneurs and idea holders to get their startup or idea off the ground. The Start-up provides all the necessary tools to develop startups with the added bonus of mentoring and partnership opportunities with other companies.

The Commissioner, who spent half a day with the young and passionate promoters of this Start-up, was introduced to the brand new Africa by incubMe project, an international incubation and acceleration programme, lasting from 3 to 6 months, which gives startups from several countries the opportunity to develop their projects. This is a flagship project within IncubMe which, according to Adel Amalou, co-founder of IncubeMe, aims to make Algeria an entrepreneurial hub for Africa.

Within the framework of this new project, which is in its second edition, 20 candidates will be selected from a pre-selection of 400 applications, in the sectors of Fintech, Agritech and renewable energy. They will be hosted, trained, coached and accompanied for six months, until their idea or project is transformed into a start-up. Young people with innovative ideas and start-up promoters are therefore invited to apply massively. Applications are open until 15 June 2022.

The Commissioner for ESTI welcomed this noble initiative and highly appreciated the project. He also suggested some ways to make this project sustainable, notably through the use of public-private partnerships and the involvement of the African private sector. He expressed satisfaction at the end of exchanges with these young promoters.

In the near future, areas of collaboration will emerge between the African Union and IncubeMe, which will also partner with PAUWES in line with the paradigm shift within the Pan-African University to make students not just job seekers, but also job creators.
