ABOUT PAUGHSS - Pan African University Institute of Governance, Humanities and Social sciences (PAUGHSS)

|   PAU

The Pan African University Institute of Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences based in Yaounde, Cameroon is one of the five hubs of the Pan African University.

This institute trains students from various countries of Africa who are selected on the basis of academic results while also considering gender issues and candidates with physical disabilities.

The institution currently offers high level trainings to students in two major fields of study: Governance and Regional integration (Yaounde campus) and Translation and Conference Interpretation (Buea campus).

Admission to PAUGHSS is free of charge and selection is based on file review.

Lectures are disseminated in English and French. 20% of PAUGHSS students are Cameroonians and lecturers come from Cameroonian universities, African countries and the diaspora.

At PAUGHSS, students study to serve Africa; to contribute to the edification of the Africa we want as stipulated in Agenda 2063: “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena”. Thus, PAUGHSS research topics are closely linked to AU Agenda 2063.

According to Prof. Ntuda Ebode, former Director of PAUGHSS, the aim of the Pan African Institute (Central Africa Hub) is to “promote Pan Africanism and train Africans in Africa, to think Africa and solve African problems”.

Since its inception in 2012, the institute has trained four batches of students including: the first batch named “the Pionneers” whose graduation ceremony took place on 30 March 2016; the second batch named “The Africa We Want” whose official graduation ceremony took place on 20 January 2017 and the third batch ‘Emerging Africa” which graduated on 31 March 2018, and the fourth batch December 2019

ABOUT PAUGHSS

Pan African University Institute of Governance, Humanities and Social sciences (PAUGHSS)

About 100 students are recruited per Master and PhD. Batch. In compliance with the LMD system (Bachelor, Master, PhD system), a Master’s program lasts for 24 months at PAUGHSS. The administrative services of the institute are temporarily headquartered in the University of Yaounde II-Soa.

It is however worth noting that PAUGHSS does not have a key thematic partner since the resignation of Sweden. Just like PAUSTI which has Japan as key thematic partner and PAUWES whose key thematic partner is Germany, PAUGHSS would be glad to be granted in the future, a major academic partner in case one was found.

Programmes offered at PAUGHSS include:

Masters (MA)

  1. Governance and Regional Integration
  2. Conference Interpreting
  3. Translation
  4. Transborder languages and Intercultural Communication
