The Pan African University is an initiative of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union. As a Premier continental university network under the leadership of the African Union Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI), the Pan African University’s mission is to provide quality postgraduate education geared towards the achievement of a prosperous, integrated and peaceful Africa.
Being a cross-cutting initiative that touches multiple aspects of development, and in line with the African Union's Year of Education 2024, the Pan African University has strengthened its collaboration with other departments of the Commission, particularly
the Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development (HHS), which oversees humanitarian responses and social development initiatives across the continent, as well as the Permanent Representative Committee (PRC) Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees, and Internally Displaced Persons, on this initiative, which addresses issues affecting displaced populations in Africa, on this initiative.
Recognizing the importance of building capacities and expanding educational opportunities for displaced persons in Africa, the Pan African University through the HHS Department has established this dedicated pathway for refugees and internally displaced persons from Western and Southern Africa to access postgraduate education at its institutes.
This special Call will be organized according to the following:
- The Call is ONLY for Refugees and Host Communities who are displaced (IDPs) from Western and Southern Africa Region
- Only Masters Programmes (MA/MSc) will be offered in the 4 PAU Institutes
- The Call will be launched on 23 December 2024 and will close on 22 January 2025.
- The Selection of students will start in: 24 January 2025.

Admission Requirements for Master’s Programmes *
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Not be older than 30 years for male and 35 years for female applicants;
- Must be a registered Refugees;
- Have an Undergraduate degree from a recognized university, with at least a second-class upper division or its equivalent, in a relevant field;
- Certified true copies of relevant certificates, transcripts (from university and high school);
- Passport or National I.D. card or Travel document from UNHCR or host governments (personal details page);
- Clear coloured passport size photograph (2cmx2cm);
- Detailed CV;
- Recommendation letter from ONE of his/her former University lecturers;
- Names of 3 Reference University lecturers (with email address and WhatsApp number) ;(Mandatory)
* Academic Competence must be evidenced in academic transcripts at the bachelors' level.
Candidates may scan the necessary documents in PDF Format to be ready to apply.
*Candidates for the Master in Conference Interpreting and Translation programmes are required to have certification and knowledge of at least two of the African Union’s official languages (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Kiswahili and Spanish).
