PAUGHSS Celebrates 10th Graduation Ceremony: "Reviving the Past, Inspiring the Future"
Yaoundé, Cameroon - The Pan African University Institute for Governance, Humanities, and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS) celebrated its 10th Graduation Ceremony under the theme "Renaissance" with the slogan: "Reviving the Past, Inspiring the Future." This milestone event, which was held on March 14, 2025, marked the graduation of 93 exceptional students from across Africa, representing 37 countries.
The ceremony brought together distinguished guests, including representatives from Cameroon’s Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of External Relations, the African Union, the President of the Pan African University Council, rectors, vice-rectors, members of the diplomatic corps, and esteemed faculty members.
In his address, the President of the PAU Council, Prof. Kenneth Matengu, highlighted the significance of this graduation, noting that it was his first time witnessing a PAUGHSS graduation ceremony. Reflecting on PAU's impact, he remarked, "Since its inception, PAU has graduated over 2,000 master’s and 700 PhD students from 53 countries, with many alumni now occupying key roles in academia, industry, and governance. PAU has also contributed significantly to the continent's knowledge economy, producing over 1,400 research papers, securing 17 patents, and influencing policies across Africa." He commended the graduates for their hard work, perseverance, and ambition, urging them to be "torchbearers of Africa's future, ready to light the way toward a more prosperous and integrated continent."
The PAUGHSS Acting Director, Prof. Marie Mimesse Me Fame, praised the graduates for their resilience and determination. She noted that the theme "Renaissance" reflects the achievements of the institution over the years and serves as a call to action for graduates to shape a stronger future for Africa. "By capitalizing on PAUGHSS’s institutional achievements, we ensure the continued training of highly skilled students who will contribute to the construction of a united and prosperous Africa," she stated.
The Mayor of Soa, in his remarks, welcomed attendees to the vibrant council of Soa, home to PAUGHSS. He expressed pride in the council hosting such a prestigious institution, where students from diverse backgrounds come together to learn, grow, and shape the continent’s future. He encouraged graduates to embrace their roles as ambassadors of African unity.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the memory of Toumani Sidibe, a graduate from Mali, who tragically passed away before the completion of his academic journey. His legacy served as a poignant reminder of the resilience and determination embodied by PAUGHSS students.
Representing the student body, Master’s graduate Abigael Ikpai delivered an emotional speech reflecting on the shared experiences of her peers. "We are grateful for the opportunity to learn not only from experienced professors but also from one another, embracing our diversity and fostering a spirit of unity. Let us use our knowledge to make a meaningful impact in our communities and across Africa," she said.
