YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon - In a major milestone for international academic diplomacy, the Rectorate of the Pan African University (PAU) hosted a high-level South Korean delegation from the Institute of African Studies at Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) on July 13, 2026. The bilateral encounter culminated in the signing of a landmark Letter of Intent, setting the stage for deep-seated academic cooperation and joint research.

The summit officially commenced with warm welcoming remarks, establishing a highly collaborative tone. During the initial presentations, Professor Bethel Ghebru, representing the South Korean delegation, delivered a comprehensive overview detailing the academic structure, research focus, and global vision of the Institute of African Studies at BUFS.

Following this, the Vice Rector of PAU, Professor Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, presented a panoramic overview of the Pan African University’s achievements, continental ambitions, and strategic structural challenges. Her address highlighted PAU's vital role in driving post-graduate excellence and regional integration across the continent.

The shared enthusiasm for collaboration quickly materialized into a formal signing ceremony. To institutionalize their mutual commitments, both institutions officially signed the Letter of Intent, laying a solid foundation for future joint research, linguistic exchange, and academic synergy.

Following the signing of the document, the delegations exchanged symbolic institutional gifts to mark the occasion, which was followed by a brief, celebratory photo session.

This successful summit concluded with inspiring closing remarks from both the Rector of PAU, Professor Jean Koulidiati, and the Director of the Institute of African Studies at BUFS. The session left all attendees with a shared conviction that a vibrant new chapter of Afro-Asian academic cooperation has officially begun.
