UNESCO IICBA – PAU Capacity Building Workshop for University Faculty through the Integration of Mobile Learning under the PAVEU Initiative
YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon — Stakeholders and higher education leaders gathered at the Djeuga Palace Hotel on August 4, 2026, for the official launch of a capacity-building workshop aimed at integrating mobile learning across Cameroonian universities under the Pan-African Virtual and Electronic University (PAVEU) Initiative.
The launch event brought together master trainers, academic delegates, and representatives from state universities across the country to advance digital transformation in education.
Strengthening Human Capital and Digital Inclusion
Opening the ceremony on behalf of the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor GABSA emphasized that investing in human capital remains vital to national development and regional ambitions. He commended project partners for their commitment and urged participating trainers to build strong professional networks to ensure the project's long-term sustainability.
Speaking on behalf of the Rector of the Pan African University (PAU), Vice-Rector Professor Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale reaffirmed the university's mandate to democratize access to quality higher education across the continent. She highlighted dedicated mobile and offline tools - specifically Goocus and Goocus Edge - designed to bridge the digital divide and reach educators even in low-connectivity areas. Professor Akeredolu-Ale underscored the critical role of teacher trainers, who will lead the digital shift across faculties.
Adding an international perspective, the UNESCO Regional Representative expressed gratitude to the Governments of Cameroon and Japan for supporting the initiative. He highlighted the project's integrated strategy, which combines high-quality academic content, mobile accessibility, and local institutional support. He stressed that digital transformation in education must remain grounded in equity, inclusion, and human capacity building so that no learner or educator is left behind.
Equipping Universities for Deployment
To support immediate operationalization, Professor GABSA officially distributed computer equipment, including tablets, to representatives of participating pilot universities. The hardware distribution aims to facilitate the immediate deployment and delivery of mobile training modules across state campuses.
The launch concluded with interactive networking sessions between university delegates and master trainers. The workshop marks a major step forward in establishing sustainable digital and mobile learning frameworks under the PAVEU banner in Cameroon.
