PAN AFRICAN UNIVERSITY WELCOMES 73 NEW STUDENTS FROM ACROSS AFRICA AT PAULESI MATRICULATION CEREMONY

Ibadan, Nigeria - The Pan African University Institute for Life and Earth Sciences-Including Health and Agriculture - (PAULESI), hosted by the University of Ibadan, welcomed its newest cohort of students during the 2024/2025 Matriculation Ceremony held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the PAULESI premises.

The event brought together distinguished guests, faculty, and families to celebrate the students' achievements. A highlight of the ceremony was a video message from the Vice Rector of the Pan African University (PAU), Professor Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, who congratulated the new students and commended their hard work and dedication. “Your acceptance into the Pan-African University is a testament to your potential as the next generation of leaders in the sciences,” she remarked.

This year’s cohort includes 73 students, with 53 enrolled in Master of Science (MSc) programs and 20 pursuing Doctorate (PhD) studies. Reflecting PAULESI’s pan-African vision, the students come from 37 different countries across the continent, with a gender balance of 40 males and 33 females.

Professor Akeredolu-Ale encouraged the students to embrace this new chapter, not just as an academic pursuit but as a chance to make a difference in their communities and the continent at large. She reminded them that PAU’s mission is to empower students to become changemakers and innovators tackling Africa’s most pressing challenges.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor K. O. Adebowale, FAS, also addressed the students, inspiring them to aim high and make the most of their time at PAULESI. The ceremony concluded with the administration of the Matriculation Oath and the signing of the Matriculation Register, marking the students' official induction into the PAULESI community.

As these students begin their academic journey, they are stepping into a vibrant community where learning goes beyond the classroom. At PAULESI, they will have the opportunity to conduct research, collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, and contribute to solutions for Africa’s future.
